5 Quick Ways to Get Your Business on Mobile

Did you know that out of the 7 billion people on the planet…

4.5 billion own a mobile phone, but only 4.2 billion own a toothbrush?

I’m not sure whether to be disgusted or amused.

Both I think.

Mobile marketing is seriously the way to go.

(As is oral hygiene, but let’s leave that for another day…)

Yet so many people are still not reaping the benefits of it yet.

When you introduce the idea of social media, companies and individuals are more than comfortable with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. And they have no problem jumping in and starting up marketing campaigns.

Step 1: Make your website mobile-friendly



Now if you don’t have the budget to completely re-design your existing website, then here are some easy changes you can make to your site:

- Buttons. Everything is smaller on mobile. And it can be such a pain trying to press a button with an already fat finger only to make it feel fatter because nothing gets clicked. By simply increasing the size of the buttons you can help mobile users navigate your site.

- Fonts & Layout. Tiny fonts are hard to read on mobile. Stupid fonts are hard to read period. Pick one that is easy to read, slightly larger than usual and has a contrasted background color.

- Image Size. Really big images take ages to load on mobile. And if you have too many, it’ll also take ages to scroll past them to reach your content. Do a little experimenting to find the optimal size that fits nicely both on a computer and mobile.

- Flash. Hmmmmm… no.


Step 2: Research your competitors

You know your niche. You know your competitors. Now look at what they’re doing on mobile. 

Don’t get spiteful and jealous.

If they have an app, install it.

If they have a mobile-friendly site, visit it.

If it’s awesome, get inspired and emulate.

If it’s terrible, then be the one that stands out as being the go-to mobile-friendly brand in your niche.

It’s easy to do and has great benefits.

Take Foursquare for example.

It’s the leading location-based social network with 20 million users. By listing your business there, people can check into your location through the mobile app.
